In 1947, the Truman Administration began providing economic assistance to Greece and Turkey because
A) the Soviet Union was no longer able to provide support for both governments and this was an opportunity for the United States to turn former communist states into democratic governments.
B) Turkey was in the midst of a civil war between its government and communist forces.
C) Greece was resisting Soviet demands for greater control of access to the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
D) Great Britain was no longer able to support these governments and the United States needed to step in to prevent the spread of communism in the region.
