I was wondering if someone could tell me if promotors and enhancer sequences actually get transcribed during transcription or is it just an area where the initiation complex binds to?  Also if it is transcribed is this area part of the initial transcript, I mean before it is modified to mature mRNA.  Thanks for your help.
