When the antigen binds the T-cell receptor, there's alot of communication that goes on.  There are humoral factors released by the communicating cells.  Most of these factors are types of interleukin, although interferon, tumor necrosis factor and hematopoetic colony stimulating factor is sometimes secreted.  Depending on the MHC that is associated with the antigen by the presenting cell, either CD4 or CD8 cells are activated to bind to the complex.  (CD4 for MHC II and CD8 for MHC I).   The different cytokines or combination of cytokines is what the cells use to determine whether there will be differentiation, plasma cells produced, induces natural killer cells, stimulation of the hematopoetic system, stimulation of macrophages, etc.  There ae about 20 types of interleukin alone.
