1 -- NSAIDs can be given safely to older patients, but they should be observed closely for side effects, particularly gastric and renal toxicity. The nurse should monitor the patient’s urine output to determine renal function. NSAIDs do not usually affect blood pressure, respiratory rate, or heart rate.
