1,2,3 -- Reduce the temperature of the room environment. This is one way to promote body cooling without causing the patient to shiver. Administer antipyretic medications as prescribed. Anti-pyretic medication lowers the body temperature. Promote frequent rest periods. Rest will reduce metabolic demands on the body. Administer ice packs. Ice packs could cause shivering and should be used with caution. Restrict fluids. Restricting fluids could cause the body temperature to increase. The patient will need additional fluids.
