4 -- Pneumococcal vaccine is generally recommended for the same populations as influenza vaccine. A single dose of this vaccine confers lifetime immunity, although repeating immunization every six years may be considered for high-risk patients. A blood culture is used to diagnose the presence of an infection. The flu vaccine and the pneumococcal vaccine are not the same.
