After a competing business opened a successful branch in the community, absenteeism has increased in the workplace where the nurse is employed. Management has increased work hours and instituted mandatory overtime. The nurse could conclude that:
1. Workplace stress is affecting the employees and manifesting itself in absenteeism.
2. The employees are taking time off to investigate working for the other business.
3. Increased working hours are making the employees ill.
4. Workers are showing increased productivity as a result of these changes.
