When a source of light is moving away from the observer, the wavelength of the detected light is shifted with respect to the emitted or rest wavelength. The size of this shift in wavelength is described by the Doppler effect, and is equal to

(a)   the value of the rest wavelength multiplied by the ratio of the source speed to the speed of light.
(b)   the ratio of the speed of the source to the speed of light.
(c)   the product of the rest wavelength times the speed of the source.
