1 -- Individuals with metabolic syndrome are found to have three or more of the following: increased waist circumference, hypertension, elevated blood triglycerides and fasting blood glucose, and low HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol. Difficulty ambulating is not relevant. A low-waist-to hip ratio is preferred and the heart rate is within normal limits.
