Acyclovir is used to reduce the severity and length of an outbreak of herpes simplex.Acyclovir is an antiviral agent.Herpes simplex is a viral condition that is not curable, and outbreaks are likely to occur when the patient is physically and/or emotionally stressed.For patients with intact immune systems, oral acyclovir (Zovirax) is generally used.
