Some pesticides, such as DDT, are no longer widely used due, in large part, to Rachel Carson's novel Silent Spring. What do you know about pesticides that are currently used? Is there any long-term danger to our health? Do the benefits outweigh the dangers? How so?

Um, this is a question that can't be summed up in a paragraph. First you have to define pesticide -- a chemical applied? a genetic mutation created by people? what if it is an organic or natural pesticide?  Long term danger -- well, chemicals can mix with each other in ways we don't realize, and affect us in unseen ways. There's also the pesticides that kill off beneficial insects/animals and have a ripple effect that way. If you want some more thorough and reliable information, you can contact a local school or university, do research at a trustworthy source (not everything on the internet or in print is true!) , read and think.  There are a lot of chemicals being used, and a lot of different opinions on their safety. A big question is what happens when everything gets mixed together in our bodies or in our drinking water?
