Low pressure areas rotate clockwise in the southern hemisphere.

In the southern hemisphere all major ocean currents circulate in an anticlockwise manner; the south Equatorial current flows from east to west before being deflected southwards to form the Brazil current in the South Atlantic, East Australia current in the South Pacific and then the currents in the South Ocean circulate from West to East on the West Wind drift.

While the two answers above are correct, I think that it is better to say simply this: In the southern hemisphere, the Coriolis force diverts all large fluid displacements at right angle to the left hand side.

High pressures and oceanic currents that move slowly are then spinning counter-clockwise, which is what happens if you keep moving in a left turn.
Low pressures, on the other hand (if you'll excuse my pun! ;-) are moving much faster because much deeper. As the air also moves in toward the center, it is taken between the left-hand displacement of the Coriolis force and the so-called, gradient force that pulls the air toward the center of the low pressure. That results in a balance between the two forces and a clockwise motion around the center.
