2. measure and apply graduated compression stockings

A patient with DVT will likely be ordered compression stockings in order to decrease edema, pain and better circulation. 1 and 3 are not good since when you are on DVT, you are placed on bed rest so mobility should be as limited as possible. 4 for sure was meant to throw you off, i was puzzled over it and 2 for a while but it makes sense why you would not want to, because it will lower blood circulation which you want to promote with a patient that has a clot.

The plan of care for a patient with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) includes possible bed rest, the duration of which is determined by the extent of leg edema; elevate legs 15 to 20 degrees, with the knees slightly flexed, above the level of the heart to promote venous return and discourage venous pooling; elastic antiembolism/compression stockings or pneumatic compression devices are also frequently ordered to stimulate the muscle-pumping mechanism that promotes the return of blood to the heart; when permitted, walking is encouraged; avoid prolonged standing or sitting; avoid leg crossing and tight-fitting garments or stockings that bind.
