1 -- Occupational asthma can result from exposure to particulate matter in the workplace. Exposure leads to bronchospasm and hypersecretion of mucous from the bronchial mucosa, dyspnea, and wheezing. The patient reports that the carpeting in his office had been recently cleaned, which would be the reason for the acute onset of respiratory symptoms. The other choices would not explain the patient’s sudden onset of respiratory symptoms.
