A nurse working with postpoliomyelitis patients knows that most of her patients
1. had their initial case which was severe, 10 to 40 years ago.
2. have muscle involvement in only muscle groups that were affected initially.
3. have few symptoms other than mild muscle and joint weakness and pain.
4. had a recurrence due to receiving an oral polio vaccine booster.

1 -- Postpoliomyelitis syndrome occurs 10 to 40 years after the initial infection, which was typically severe. Manifestations involve muscles that were initially infected as well as new muscle groups. Symptoms include fatigue, muscle and joint weakness, loss of muscle mass, respiratory difficulties, and pain as well as cold intolerance, dizziness, headaches, urinary incontinence, and sleep disorders. The cause of this syndrome is unknown.
