Competing organisms is when you have two similar species competing for a limited food source in a closed environment. For example, two species of fish, in a pond, competing for available food. In the predator-prey model, you have two species - one a predator, and the other the prey - found in a closed environment. The predator eats the prey, and the prey has a different food source. For example, foxes prey on rabbits, while rabbits live on vegetables in the forest.
