-2x=36
-6x+y=1

would it be easier to use the linear system combination or substitution..
and why?

It would be easier to use substitution because the y variable in the second equation integer is 1 and it would be easier to make y the subject of the equation

y=6x+1

I personally think that for this problem it is easier to use substitution since the first equation has only one variable (x) so solve for x on that equation and substitute it in the second

x= - 18
-6(-18)+y=1
y= -107
