Effects of Invasive Species on Food Chains
In this experiment, you will use Pearson’s Virtual Labs to explore the effects of an invasive species on a simple food chain in Florida swamplands. In these systems, the top predator is a cougar (Puma concolor). The puma preys on many animals including mice (Mus musculus) and turtles (red eared slider Trachemys scripta elegans). As a result of the pet trade industry, a new predator may be introduced. This simulation will consider what might happen to cougar, mouse, and turtle populations with the introduction of the Burmese python (Python molurus bivittatus) to swamps in Florida. This will be done through a population modeling simulation program. And I have to answer following questions and I don't know how. please help guys! Slight Smile

1)Describe the growth patterns of the mouse, cougar, and red-eared slider populations when pythons are not present.

2)Describe the growth of the Burmese python population after its introduction.

3)Describe the growth patterns of the mouse, cougar, and red-eared slider populations after the introduction of the pythons.

4)Why do you think the python caused this pattern?
