Ans: Students should explain the rapid political changes made in the illusory hope of gaining favorable terms from the allies, revolution in parts of Germany, and the resulting political weakness. Make sure they mention the reasons why many Germans found it hard to believe they had really been defeated and the resulting stab in the back explanation.
