The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the oldest surviving epic poems we have from Mesopotamia. It was the Sumerian tale of Gilgamesh who was on an important quest. Who was he and what was his quest?

  A) Gilgamesh was a mortal man from Sumer, seeking to free his people from conquest and enslavement with the help of the gods.
  B) Gilgamesh was a god overseeing the Sumerian people. He was on a quest to save the people of Sumer from a Great Flood that would destroy them all.
  C) Gilgamesh was a Sumerian king who was half mortal, half divine. He fought for his city-state and his people but was ultimately on a quest for immortality.
  D) Gilgamesh was a king of Sumer that desperately attempted to save his people from the Great Flood.
  E) Gilgamesh was an epic hero on a quest to become godlike by saving the people of Sumer from an encroaching flood.
