The intestine has folds called plicae circulares that increase surface area.  Covering these folds are intestinal villi, which are small finger-like projections that also increase surface area.  Each villus is lined with many microvilli that once again increase surface area. 

Level 1)  plicae circulares
Level 2)  villi
Level 3)  microvilli
