Why was Obama's race such a factor in the 2008 presidential election?
 
  A. The American people, as a whole, were not interested in having an African American president.
  B. The U.S. was still sharply divided along color lines, especially in certain Deep South states.
  C. Obama used his race to attempt to gain the black vote.
  D. Most Americans were eager to see the first African American in history assume the role of President of the United States.
