A female client experiencing symptoms of menopause states that her menstrual periods have become irregular, with the last period occurring approximately four months ago.
 
  What information should be provided to the client concerning the use of contraceptives? 1. Contraceptives should continue to be utilized.
   2. Contraceptives are no longer needed.

Rationale:
It takes approximately one year of menstrual cycle cessation in order for a woman to be considered in menopause. It is still possible for the woman to become pregnant during this period of time. Contraceptives should be used until one year without menstrual cycles has occurred.
