The nurse is taking the blood pressure of a very large adult. How will the blood pressure reading be affected if the nurse uses the standard cuff?
 
  a. The blood pressure reading will be falsely low.
  b. The blood pressure reading will be falsely high.
  c. The systolic reading will be inaccurate, but the diastolic reading will be accurate.
  d. Cuff size has little effect on blood pressure reading.

A falsely elevated reading will result if the bladder is too narrow and a falsely low reading will result if it is too wide.
