t-butyle alcohol reacts rapidly with concentrated hydrochloric acid at room temperature to form t-butyl chloride.

So we had:

weight of t-butyl-alcohol 9.64 grams
volume of hydrochoric acid 50 mL
boiling range of collected product 20-25 C
theoretical yield of t-butyl chloride ? grams
actualy yield of t-butyl chloride 6.31 grams
percent yield of t-butyl chloride ? %

how do you calculate theoretical yield?

i know you need how much you started with, i think this is it:

1. Place 10.0g (d=0.79g/mL) of t-butyl alcohol in a 125mL separator funnel.

or it could be when we were done we wound up with 103.69g

can anyone help?
