If depolarizing membrane potentials open voltage gated sodium channels, what closes them?

For action potential generation and propagation are there any other cation channels that could substitute for the voltage-gated sodium channels if the sodium channnels were blocked?

Voltage-gated ion channels open and close in response to membrane potential. Membrane potential is the difference in electrical potential between the interior and the exterior of a biological cell.
