Heat absorptiondoes hinder leaf function.

Why and how you may ask?
Well to start off, plants do the opposite of what we humans oranimals would do. What happens when you begin to feel cold and youdo not have a coat? Well, normally you would get what people callthe "goose bumps", right? These "goose bumps" are just ametaphorical expression of the hairs on your skin that tend tostand up as if you were to be frighten. This is not cause by aghost, but in fact, it is caused the reception of low temperatureson your skin causing your muscles to tighten up as a homeostasismechanism of maintaining body heat.

But what about plants? Well, for plants it is the OPPOSITE. Plantsclose their stomata on their leaves when temperatures are too highbecause they want to prevent transpiration, the evaporationof water. As you should already know, plants need water and carbondioxide in order to produce food, glucose. A process known asphotosynthesis.

Okay so whats the problem what that? Well, if plants close theirstomata then they cannot take in carbon dioxide. If plants cannottake in carbon dioxide, then the process of photosynthesis cannotoccur. Which means food would soon seize to circulate through thefood chain .

There main 3 types of plants are C3 plants, C4 plants, and CAM plants. C4 plants and CAM plants have evolutionary adaptationsC4 plants closed their stomata and incorporate and use carbons froman acid that they make. In turn, photosynthesis occurs in thebundle sheath cells and not the mesophyll cells. This processoccurs during the day.

The same goes for CAM cells but instead, they closed their stomataduring the day and open them during the night to take in carbondioxide to incorporate it into acids. Then during the day it wouldmake glucose using carbon not from teh air but from the acids.Smart isn't it?

The difference among them is that one occurs only during day timeand the other occurs during the night and then during the day.
