Why are there so many different types of law enforcement agencies in the United States? What problems, if any, do you think are created by such a diversity of agencies?

the reasons for so many law enforcement agencies is one to help give each local a more personal law enforcement that understands what that population goes through and works with it to help better it. for example a New York officer will not be well fitted for a back water farming community and a back water farming community officer will not be well suited for large city duty. as for the addition of the FBI and CIA as well as state police they were added to make a more centeralized task force in the event of an inceident spreading across many different jurisdictions. the main set backs are from communication and willingness to work towards the same goal in fear of getting no credit for their work.
