If you're in a catabolic state, you're taking your body stores to use and metabolize for energy.

Metabolism is all of the metabolic processes in an organism.  Metabolism can be divided into two processes: 1) processes that build molecules (anabolism), and 2) processes that breakdown molecules (catabolism).
