At the positive plate or electrode:

___2 NiO(OH) + 2 H2O + 2e- Leftwards Arrow-> 2 Ni(OH)2 +  2OH ^-

At the negative plate or electrode:

___Cd + 2 OH^- Leftwards Arrow-> Cd(OH)2 +2 e-

Overall nickel cadmium cell reaction:

___Cd + 2 NiO(OH) + 2 H2O Leftwards Arrow-> Cd(OH)2 + 2 Ni(OH)2

The discharge reactions occur from left to right, while the charge reactions are reversed.
