Ascomycetes Life Cycle

Description
In the sexual reproduction of all other fungal groups, hyphae fuse, allowing "gamete" nuclei to be transferred. In the ascomycetes and basidiomycetes, plasmogamy precedes karyogamy, with the result that a dikaryon is formed. This (n + n) dikaryotic condition is unique to the fungi.
