“Peplos” Kore

Description
From the Akropolis, Athens. c. 530 BCE. Marble, height 4' (1.21 m). Akropolis Museum, Athens.

"Peplos" Kore
Although named for a young girl's garment, this figure is not actually wearing a peplos.

Sculpting of the flesh conveys a sense of bone structure underneath.
This sculpture was originally painted with a frieze of animals, possibly marking her as a goddess.
