Saltatory conduction

Description
Saltatory conduction. The myelin sheath is not continuous throughout the axon. It is interrupted by the nodes of Ranvier, Many voltage-gated Na+ channels are present at the nodes of Ranvier, which permits the regeneration of action potentials. The depolarization of the membrane by the entry of Na+ ions quickly spreads through the insulated part of the axon to again be regenerated at the following node. Myelin sheath Node of Ranvier
