Cytoskeletal actin and nonmuscle myosin II in fibroblasts

Description
a) Actin fibers as detected by fluorescent phalloidin, which binds specifically to actin.

b) Myosin in the same cell detected by an injected fluorescent antibody.

c) A mechanism for contractility in the cytoskeleton. An NM II filament (green and olive) will bring together two anchored actin microfilaments (red). NM II moves toward the “+” end of the microfilament.

d) The direction of movement of the actin microfilaments is shown by the arrows.
