Style of the Achilles Painter: WOMAN AND MAID

Description
c. 450-440 BCE. White-ground lekythos. Ceramic, with additional painting in tempera, height 15-1/8" (38.4 cm). Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Francis Bartlett Donation of 1912. (13.201).

The Painted Stoa on the Athenian Agora  was decorated by the most famous artists of the time, including Polygnotos of Thasos.
White-ground ceramic painting may echo lost contemporary wall and panel painting.
Lekythoi such as the one below were used to pour libations.
