(04:22:58) Ritvik_Bansal: hello
(04:23:05) Ritvik_Bansal: Confusion in MUTATION and VARIATIONI'm sorry if this sounds very basic, but basically in genetics, we were taught that evolution is caused by variation and variation is caused by : mutation and sexual reproduction.I assume sexual reproduction means recombination during meiosis? But what causes mutation? And in evolution ( taught by another professor) we studied that according to Darwin evolution is caused by 'small, directional variations meanwhile by De Vries it is caused by 'large, directionless mutations'Is this not contrary? Because if variation is caused by mutation, how can these be different? And how can variation be directional? Is not randomI think I have a completely wrong idea about variations and mutations because it does not make sense. Any help would be very appreciated :)
