Patients who enter the health care system have two reasonable expectations. The first is not to be harmed, and the second is that the nurses providing care will be both competent and compassionate.
 
  Provision of care that is consistent and delivered in a predictable way can make the experience less intimidating for the patient. The nurse provides predictable care by:

  Never making promises to patients.

  Assuring the patient that his/her requests will get done eventually.
