The nurse working with a 12-year-old female student who has experienced early onset puberty would base her knowledge on the fact that the student is cognitively and socially unprepared for the risks associated with sexual activity. Engaging in sexual activity may have a variety of consequences for the adolescent, including poor performance at school.
