During the nursing history interview, the client tells the nurse that he would be better off dead. The care provider's response is

  1. Nothing is bad enough to kill yourself over.
  2. to ask if he has a plan to commit suicide.
  3. to ignore the subject so the client will forget.
  4. to refrain from using the word suicide to prevent the client from getting any ide-as.
