Discuss the federal occupational disability and federal firearms disability as they related to convicted felons. Do you agree with the imposition of these government-imposed legal disabilities? Why or why not? Under what circumstances should such limitations be applied on former prisoners?

The federal occupational disability precludes convicted felons from pursuing occupations; the federal firearms statute precludes convicted firearms from legally obtaining firearms. The government is entitled to prohibit convicted felons from engaging in certain professions and owning firearms. In cases of offenders with histories of engaging in violence (and in particular, those who have been convicted for firearm-related offenses), it is reasonable and legitimate to enact such restrictions.
