An employer might object to the 60-day notice requirement because it would be disruptive to the workforce. Qualified employees might leave before it has finished its manufacturing commitments at the old facility. Other employees would no longer be motivated to work diligently for the employer. Dishonesty, absenteeism, and careless and shoddy work may also result where employees know that they are losing their jobs. An employee might argue in favor of such a notice requirement because it would give employees an opportunity to seek other employment during nonworking hours so that when the plant closes the employees will have jobs. It would also give employees a chance to save money for the period of time they might be out of work after the plant closing. Moreover, it would allow employees to make rational personal finance decisions during the 60-day period, such as postponing the buying of a new car or a new home.
