Nurses should be aware that chronic hypertension:
 
  1. is defined as hypertension that begins during pregnancy and lasts for the duration of pregnancy.
  2. is considered severe when the BP systolic is greater than 140 or the diastolic is greater than 90.
  3. is general hypertension plus proteinuria.
  4. can occur independently or simultaneously with gestational hypertension.
