In utilitarian thinking, a problem would be weighed to find a solution that would promote the best outcomes for the greatest number of individuals. Individual needs are weighed against the needs of the whole. Positive outcomes for the greatest number of individuals is the basis for utilitarian thinking. Each situation is addressed individually, but with the basic premise of utilitarian thinking.
