The enhanced greenhouse effect is warming of the Earth's surface that occurs as a direct result of human activities that include burning fossil fuels, land clearing, and industrial pollution. These activities release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, trapping more of the sun's radiation (heat) than is normal and intensifying the warming effect.
