High/Scope is based on Piaget's cognitive development theory, uses interest centers and plan-do-review process in the classroom, and regards teachers as an observers and facilitators for active learning. The Montessori teacher guides the children as they work at their own pace, observing and encouraging learning and preparing the classroom environment which is highly organized with practical life, sensory, and academic materials. Reggio Emilia is based on a constructivist model centered on relationships, employing emergent curriculum and projects. The teachers are partners with children and parents in continual learning in an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Children with involved fathers have better educational outcomes. Fathers who are involved, nurturing and playful with their infants have children with higher IQs. Toddlers with involved fathers go on to school with higher levels of academic readiness. The influence of a father's involvement on academic achievement extends into adolescence and young adulthood. Students living in father-absent homes are twice as likely to repeat a grade in school.
