A big part of offering foreign aid is to spread imperialism across the globe, and to have influence over other nations. The money can be used to support global peace, security, and development efforts, and provide humanitarian relief during times of crisis. It is a strategic way to improve america's own economy and geopolitical prosperity in the long haul.

2. Describe the "Berlin Airlift". pp 244-247

In the time after the war, the four powers occupying Berlin wanted different things for the future of the city. The Western Allies wished to revive the German economy and get business going in Berlin again. However, the Soviets wished to keep occupation of their section of Berlin as well as plan further communist actions for the city. Food was scarce in Berlin, so the three Western powers sought out to feed Berlin. On June 23, 1948, Soviet forces secretly ordered the cut off of food and supplies from the West to Berlin, and the city was blockaded.

On June 26, 1948 the Berlin Airlift began. Thousands of tons of food and supplies were flown to Berlin from the Western powers for a total of fifteen months until Stalin lifted the blockades surrounding Berlin. Although many pilots and other workers were not entirely for the mission because of World War II, they followed orders and agreed to help. The operation was rather risky, as the East and West of Berlin where in disagreement. The pilots also had to endure harsh flying conditions and lack of sleep. Many of the airplanes were often overworked. The Berlin Airlift, as a whole, saved the city of Berlin as well as the lives of many German people.

3.Respond to "Pause and Reflect", top right p. 255.

The soviet union chose Cuba to store its nuclear weapons and convey an attack it need-be because it was geography close to the USA -- this would remain as a consist threat given the escalated belligerent behaviour between the two countries.
