This will depend on the bacterial species in question.

For example, glucose in the media increases the amount of capsule produced by Clostridium perfringens SM101 (glucose is a major component of its capsule, so this makes sense).

In other bacteria, glucose (or other carbon sources) might repress the capsule, it can be temperature regulated, or oxygen regulated, or pH etc.

Do you mean overall size/volume or dry mass? It's such an open question since there are too many variables. Temp, pH, oxygen, as well as media/carbon source. Dish, Flask, or Bioreactor?

That is the exact question from the lab book. He did not lecture about it and I can find the question out in google, but the answers were to me, too all over the place.
