So I have a locus with 'n' number of known alleles. I'm trying to find out how many genotypes would be produced; I thought I would use the 'n choose 2' method, but I saw a response on here to another post that was 'n (n+1) / 2.'
Can someone explain why that would be the correct equation and not 'n choose 2'?

Thank you. Also, I did some research, and apparently the formula for adding the sum of all numbers up (like psych360 suggested) to 'n' IS the formula that was suggested in the other post.
    [n * ( n +1 )] / 2
