Dendrites pick up the message from the initial stimulus. The message then passes onto the soma (cell body), which determines if the impulse has reached the threshold. If it has reached the threshold, the neuron will completely fire. The action potential causes the positive charges held on the outside of the axon to rush inside the axon, thus pushing the message down the axon. When reaching the end of the axon (terminal buttons), the neurotransmitters are released into the synapse. These will fit into receptor sites on the next neuron like a lock and key, carrying the message to the next neuron.
