1 -- An advance directive, or living will, is a document in which a patient formally states preferences for health care in the event that he or she later becomes mentally incapacitated. The patient’s care plan and information regarding the use of universal precautions are hospital-based sources of information. Patient care dilemmas will be decided on a case-by-case basis and do not relate to the information in this question.
